You will provide mental health nursing care and undertake a GP Liaison role within the Mental Health Clinical Program (MHCP). Working within the framework of the National Mental Health Policy and National Standards, you will use the process of nursing to deliver direct and comprehensive nursing care and individual case management to consumers. Education, counselling and group work are considered essential components of care directed towards achieving optimum consumer health and recovery. This will involve consultation and liaison with other professional disciplines and non-governmental organisations. Consolidating your experience and nursing study, you will demonstrate ongoing practice development from a competent to a proficient practitioner. You will accept accountability for your own practice standards, activities delegated to others, and for the guidance and development of less experienced staff. This role is predominantly clinical in nature. You may also be involved in clinical teaching and research activities, along with participating in projects such as clinical protocols, guidelines, process mapping or another specific activity.

Registered as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, you will hold a current practising certificate, along with a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or an equivalent qualification. This will be supported by experience in the care of individuals with complex mental health needs. You will work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and possess highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation. Computer literacy in current nursing and clinical information systems will be ideal, along with an ability to be creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within the mental health care setting.
