Associate Nurse Unit Manager at Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service Medical Ward

Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service is seeking a dedicated Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) for our Medical Ward. About the Role:

As an Associate Nurse Unit Manager, you will:

  • Provide Leadership: Support the Nursing/Midwifery Unit Manager in leading the nursing team, ensuring high standards of care and promoting continuity and consistency in patient care.
  • Assist in Management: Contribute to ward/unit/service management responsibilities, including performance management, recruitment, staffing, leave management, rostering, and financial planning.
  • Enhance Practice: Assist in implementing practice changes and improvements, collaborating with other ANUMs and the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager to drive positive outcomes in the ward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Excellence: Deliver nursing services across various health settings with proficiency, ensuring adherence to practice standards and guidelines.
  • Staff Development: Provide guidance and support to less experienced staff, including student nurses, enrolled nurses, and junior registered nurses.
  • Operational Support: Engage in ward/unit management activities, such as monitoring financials, supplies, and ensuring effective staff work allocation and attendance management.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualifications: Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse or Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold, or be eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of post-registration experience or current classification as a Clinical Nurse/Midwife. Demonstrated competence in nursing practice and experience in supervising less experienced staff.
  • Skills: Effective communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Attributes: Creativity, innovation, and flexibility in addressing healthcare challenges. Strong understanding of relevant legislation, standards, and Quality Improvement Systems.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary professional nursing/midwifery issues and healthcare standards.
