About the Role:

An exciting opportunity is presented to work within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network as a Nurse Consultant within the Older Persons Mental Health Service.

Community-based mental health nurses play a vital role in Australia’s healthcare system. With 1 in 5 people experiencing a mental illness in any given year, the demand for mental health support continues to rise. Various socioeconomic factors, such as access to services, living conditions and employment status, can influence someone’s mental health. This impact is not limited to the individual but extends to their families and caregivers. As such, a community mental health nurse’s role is to provide all affected individuals with the support they need. Join our lovely Mental Health Community Team at NALHN to make a difference.

As a Nurse Consultant you will be responsible for supporting a culture of learning within our service, ensuring our nursing and multidisciplinary teams are able to deliver the highest standard of care in line with state wide and national standards. As an experienced nurse, it is expected that you will provide clinical leadership at the point of care through sound clinical judgement and decision making on matters such as clinical assessment, and the provision of care and treatment. The Nurse Consultant position is considered to be an expert and knowledgeable resource in their specialty. In this role you will also be expected to have a key role in change management, and have a good, if not expert, understanding of quality improvement methodology, and how this is applied to practice as a service through clinical governance.

To be eligible for this position, you must be registered as a Nurse by the Nursing/Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and hold a current practicing certificate. You must be enrolled in an approved mental health course or hold a qualification in mental health practice.

The South Australian public sector promotes diversity and flexible ways of working including part-time. Applicants are encouraged to discuss the flexible working arrangements for this role.

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check.
