Jamestown Hospital and Health Service
Jamestown is a historic town located in South Australia’s Mid North, 220 kilometres north of Adelaide. Nestled along the banks of Belalie Creek and situated on the Crystal Brook-Broken Hill railway line, Jamestown is an important regional hub, connecting Adelaide and Perth to Sydney via the main interstate railway.
Jamestown is part of an agricultural region known for producing grain, legumes, wool, and timber. It’s also notable for the Bundaleer Forest, the site of the world’s first plantation forest, which was established in 1876. This forest has long been a symbol of the town’s role in pioneering forestry practices.

Services provided by Jamestown Hospital and Health Service
Jamestown Hospital and Health Service operates 24/7, providing a comprehensive range of medical, surgical, and support services to the community. The services include:
Hospital Services:
- General medical and surgical care for inpatients and outpatients, including specialties like gastroenterology, gynaecology, and obstetrics.
- Aged residential care and personal care for older persons.
- Community support services such as community bus, day therapy centres, delivered meals (Meals on Wheels), and health advocacy/liaison services.
- Nurse-led clinics and palliative care services.
- Same day stays and planned activity groups for older individuals.
- Surgery – general procedures, as well as diagnostic radiology/x-ray.
Maternity/Obstetrics:
- A birthing suite is available, supported by a shared care arrangement with General Practitioners and community midwives.
- Services include childbirth and parenting classes and community midwifery, offering postnatal visits to support mothers after childbirth.
Residential Aged Care:
The Symonds Wing provides residential aged care for older people requiring high-level care, as well as respite care for short-term stays.
This broad range of services ensures holistic care for the community, focusing on both immediate medical needs and long-term care for the elderly.
About the Roles
Enrolled Nurse
The Enrolled Nurse supports the Registered Nurse/Midwife in delivering person-centred care, adhering to regulatory and statutory requirements. Their practice ranges from novice to proficient, working under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse/Midwife. However, the Enrolled Nurse retains responsibility for their own actions and accountability in providing nursing or midwifery care.
The role involves assisting in the care of aged care residents, acute care patients, and supporting the Registered Nurse in the Accident and Emergency Department and Outpatient Department. The Enrolled Nurse also assists Medical Officers in Minor Procedures clinics and may have opportunities to join the theatre team.
Registered Nurse
Employees at this level provide nursing and/or midwifery services in health settings, progressing from novice to proficient practitioners. They consolidate their knowledge and skills through continuous professional development and experience, taking accountability for their own practice and delegated activities. Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, they supervise Enrolled Nurses, who remain responsible for their own practice.
The role includes providing care in various settings, such as aged care, acute care, triage, emergency care, outpatient departments, and assisting in minor procedures or theatre teams. They are expected to offer proficient care and collaborate with medical staff as needed.
Jamestown Hospital currently has the below vacancies:
- Registered Nurse: Permanent F/T, 1.0 FTE (38 hours per week)
- Enrolled Nurse: Permanent P/T, 0.84 FTE (32 hours per week)
